Room-Temperature Curable Coatings

SILZ-RT6 — Room-Temperature Curable Silazane Coating

SILZ-RT6 is a room-temperature curable silazane coating that brings ceramic-like protection to jobs where an oven is not an option. The one-component system cures ambient to a ≥4H, non-yellowing film with covalent adhesion, 30-day salt spray endurance and a water contact angle above 105° — built for on-site repair, maintenance and outdoor protective work.

Silfluo SILZ-RT6 room-temperature curable silazane coating

Product Overview

The formulation pairs a polysilazane film-former with specialized diluents, inhibitors and leveling additives, so it applies like paint and cures like a thin ceramic. Service runs below 150 °C continuously with short-term substrate-dependent exposure to 800 °C, and 30-day immersion in 5% NaCl, H₂SO₄ and HNO₃ leaves the film uncorroded.

Formulated with compatible fillers, RT6-based systems reach performance comparable to our SILZ-HT21 line — acid, alkali, UV and cracking resistance — which is why it serves aerospace, petrochemical, metallurgy and power-generation maintenance programs as the entry point of the room-temperature series.

Key Benefits

Cures on site, no oven

Full ambient cure with an optional 180 °C accelerated schedule (30 minutes) when a line oven exists.

Generous film window

20–200 µm dry film in a single coat — the most forgiving build range in the series, suited to repair and field work.

30-day chemical immersion

5% NaCl, H₂SO₄ and HNO₃ for 30 days without corrosion; 30-day neutral salt spray without blistering or rust.

Hydrophobic, self-cleaning surface

>105° contact angle sheds water and grime for outdoor anti-aging duty.

Typical Applications

  • Coating repair & maintenance
  • Wear/fire-resistant protection
  • Outdoor hydrophobic self-cleaning surfaces
  • Antibacterial skin-contact topcoats

Curing & Processing Guidance

Prepare surfaces to Sa 2.5 (minimum St 3, no mill scale), degrease and dry. Shake the container thoroughly and filter through a 400-mesh sieve before use.

Spray with a 0.5–1.0 mm nozzle in one coat, keeping dry film at or below 200 µm. Use opened material within 6 hours.

At room temperature the film is surface-dry in 1–3 hours (temperature-dependent) and fully cured in 3–7 days; at 180 °C full cure takes 30 minutes. Humidity participates in cure — the 70% RH reference schedule shortens in humid conditions and stretches in very dry air.

Substrate Compatibility

Steel, stainless steel, aluminum and common industrial metals after standard preparation; also masonry-class surfaces in maintenance duty. For substrate-specific systems — especially where short-term high-temperature excursions are expected — confirm the formulation with our engineers.

SILZ-RT6 — Purchasing & Application FAQ

How does SILZ-RT6 differ from SILZ-RT7?

RT6 is the maintenance-grade workhorse: ≥4H hardness, higher build tolerance and the lowest cost of entry. RT7 is the premium clearcoat: ≥8H hardness, >110° contact angle and 500 °C non-yellowing service. Choose RT6 for repair and general protection, RT7 where hardness and long-term heat exposure dominate.

Can I speed up the multi-day ambient cure?

Yes — any heat helps. The formal accelerated schedule is 180 °C for 30 minutes; lower oven temperatures shorten cure proportionally. Ambient humidity also accelerates cure since moisture drives the reaction.

Is RT6 suitable for surfaces that see occasional flame or heat spikes?

Short-term exposure up to 800 °C is possible depending on substrate and film design. For repeated or continuous high-temperature duty, use the SILZ-HT ceramic line instead — RT6's continuous rating is below 150 °C.
