SILZ-RT31 — Room-Temperature Curing 600°C Anti-Corrosion Ceramic Coating

SILZ-RT31 is a room-temperature curable polysilazane ceramic coating rated for -30 to 600 °C service — the grade that lets you protect chimneys, flues and furnace externals without shutting equipment in an oven. The black, one-component system cures ambient in a day (or 30 minutes at 180 °C) to a ≥5H, densely packed film.

Silfluo SILZ-RT31 room-temperature curing 600°c anti-corrosion ceramic coating

Product Overview

The formulation is an organic-inorganic hybrid: polysilazane binder with copper-chromium black pigment, phosphates and inorganic silicon fillers. Cured, the fillers pack tightly in the resin matrix for a compact, moderately glossy film that bonds covalently to steel — heat resistance above 600 °C with 800 °C instantaneous capability, plus acid, salt-spray and aging resistance.

It anchors App-class duty on desulfurization units, petrochemical cracking equipment, exhaust systems and high-temperature steel structures across power, metallurgy and aerospace maintenance programs — anywhere the asset cannot come offline for a bake.

Key Benefits

600 °C service from ambient cure

Full ceramic-class heat resistance without oven curing — the defining trade of this grade.

800 °C instantaneous capability

Survives short thermal spikes and flue-gas excursions beyond its continuous rating.

Thin 30 µm system

One thin coat at 30 ± 5 µm protects with 10–15 m²/kg coverage — low added weight on large structures.

30-day salt spray, phosphate-inhibited

Anti-corrosion fillers and dense packing deliver >30 d neutral salt spray endurance on hot-section steel.

Typical Applications

  • Chimneys & flues
  • Heat exchangers
  • Furnaces
  • Desulfurization units
  • Petrochemical cracking units
  • Exhaust systems

Curing & Processing Guidance

Prepare steel to Sa 2.5 (minimum St 3, no mill scale), degrease, dry. Stir the one-component material to full uniformity and filter before spraying.

Apply one coat at 30 ± 5 µm dry film. Pot life after opening is 6 hours.

Cure at room temperature for >24 hours, or 180 °C for under 30 minutes when a heat source exists. First heat-up of in-service equipment completes densification — commissioning guidance for ramp rates ships with the TDS.

Substrate Compatibility

Carbon steel, alloy steels and stainless equipment surfaces in high-temperature corrosive service — chimneys, flues, heat exchangers, furnace shells, desulfurization and exhaust systems. Confirm substrate alloy and peak temperature so we match the formulation.

SILZ-RT31 — Purchasing & Application FAQ

Can SILZ-RT31 be applied to equipment that cannot be taken out of service long?

Yes — that is its role. Ambient cure needs only >24 hours before handling, and in-service heat completes densification. For turnaround windows, the 180 °C / 30-minute schedule cures it before re-commissioning.

How does RT31 differ from the SILZ-HT oven-cured line?

RT31 trades a little top-end capability for ambient cure: 600 °C continuous / 800 °C instantaneous versus HT-grade ceilings of 800 °C+ with oven or nitrogen cures. If you can bake, look at HT21/HT23/HT52/HT53; if you cannot, RT31 is the answer.

Is the black color fixed?

Yes — the copper-chromium black pigment is part of the heat-resistance package. Where color matters more than the last degrees of temperature rating, see the gray RT61/EPPSZ-2K systems or ask about project-specific builds.
